Grace is a big winner in the Green Family!

The Battle of the Books Team 2009....Primary and Intermediate Teams

Yesterday was the 2009 Battle of the Books competition for Grace and 200+ other kids in our school district. They had studied and read and read and read some more....to the point where Tuesday Grace said, "Mom, can we please go and get some new books tomorrow?" You bet, girl.

So, she and her team from school went against 21 other schools in our district. It was so tough. The schools really came prepared this year and it was so great to see all the kids and how excited they were for the competition! They have 3 rounds of questions....the questions sound something like this...." In which book is the main character confused by the love of another character?" And the kids have to determine which book that this question describes. Sometimes the answers come so easy and other times they are left scratching their little heads until the last second!

Susie and Parker got to have a super fun playdate over at Macy and Ms. Stephanie's house. Thanks so much Frost family...they had a wonderful time, even if their daddy forgot to bring their backpack full of clothes!! We are so thankful for fun friends! The Battle of the Books competition is NOT a place for a little one...it's very quiet and you can hear everything in that gym. Parker and Sus would have been bored out of their little heads!
Grace was named captain for her primary (1st-3rd grade) team again this year. This year their team was all new except for Grace. Last year, Grace was the only rookie, so it was a big switch this year in the competition. They did super and worked together so well as a team! We are so very proud of her and the team for their hard work. Grace read and studied the 15 primary books as well as reading the 9 of the 10 intermediate books. One of the books seemed a little too "big" for Grace so we passed on that title. She really enjoyed reading the intermediate books better, but I think it is mainly because it makes her feel like a big kid!

If you are in the market for some great picture book titles or chapter books...we have some great ones for you to read. Their team placed 3rd in the competition and we couldn't be prouder!! Yippe kids...ya'll did so great!!

Grace's Sunday morning Bible Class teacher came to watch her in the competition and Grace was so excited to see Ms. Shellie in the stands!
