Last night, I stayed up until 11:00 watching, hoping and begging the Virginia Tech football team for a win against the biggest joke in college football. Yes, I said joke. Well, the Boise State Broncos came back in the last minute, scored and dashed all hopes for a real team of being in the top of the BCS Championship series. Gross. Just gross.
I mean, really. This is the only time that Boise State will play a real team....the next closest thing that they play to a good team is Oregon State. Really?? That is it? Come on. You've got to get some real teams on your schedule. And don't give me this, "We challenged all of college football to come and play us and they didn't respond" Junk....Real teams set their schedules 3 to 5 years in advance. That is why they are REAL teams.
Arrgggh. Now for the next 3 months, we get to hear about how "great" Boise State is because they will be undefeated come December. WAC conference. Joy. Really, do you want to be a part of a conference that is called "WAC?"
I do have to give their QB, Kellen Moore, a tiny little credit. He ran the picture perfect 2 minute drill for a touchdown and the win. If only VT had made that 2 pt. conversion just a little while before.....or had just showed up for the first quarter.
And that folks, is why I LOVE college football. Not the Boise State Broncos, so much...but college football!!

Why don't I take pictures??
I flew in this afternoon from the funeral of my friend, Kenny Robertson. I had 24 hours in Arkansas with my friends and it was sad and wonderful all at the same time. We all met and loved on Kenny's family and loved on each other up at the church for a few hours. Then a group of us went out to Katy Staggs White's house and hung out for a few hours.
One of our guys from our high school class brought a video camera and turned it on while we all shared our favorite memories of Kenny for Angie and her kids to have later. Why didn't I bring a camera? Who knows?? It was so fun. It was so sad. I loved it, all. I loved celebrating that I have a friend that I KNOW is in Heaven. Talk about a good kind of jealous. We have our struggles and our own day to day happenings in this little bit of time that we call life. Kenny won the race...and believe me, if anyone is happy about that, it is Kenny. One of the most competitive people that I've ever known... and he beat us there.
Last night was a little taste of what I think Heaven will be like. Seeing old friends from so many years past, hugging necks and loving and encouraging others. Not everyone could come last night, but this morning, oh this morning, just watching a seeing people pour in the doors of that church. People that we haven't loved on in so many years. It was a great and bittersweet reunion, all in one. Thanks, Kenny. You got us all together and we all loved on each other, while we were celebrating your great life and your victory in Christ. We have all been blessed that you were in our lives.
The military ceremony was out at Camp Takodah. Camp is where we all grew up worshipping, competing and just loving being out in God's creation. I didn't get to go and I was so very bummed that I couldn't go. I was just afraid that I was going to miss my plane and with Aaron having to go out of town, too, I couldn't take that chance. BUT.....Here is my God moment....
I drove over to see my grandparents in Searcy for a few minutes after I dropped Katy at her house after the service this morning. Then I went to a quick lunch in Little Rock with my favorite college girls from our old church in Ft. Worth and then they dropped me off at the airport. I only had to wait a few minutes and then they boarded my plane. I was almost the last one to board. I was so tired that I really didn't care so I just grabbed a seat and put my stuff up. The guy beside me was asleep and I was quickly asleep after I buckled up.
I woke up when the pilot was lowering the wheels of the plane and I picked up my purse. I took the program from the service this morning. I was just thinking of Kenny and Angie and stuff.... and then the man beside me touches my arm and says, "We were at the same service this morning. I was in the Texas A&M Corps with Kenny for 4 years." NO WAY!!!!
It was AWESOME. We talked and talked about Kenny and he told me some great stories from their A&M times. We got off the plane and then I met 2 of his buddies that were also on our SAME plane. We all just stood around and talked about our weekend and the celebrations. It turns out that they all (13 of them) stayed up until 3 am, just like we did!!
Such nice nice guys. They hugged me like we were old friends and then said our good-byes. It was just amazing. There is my God moment. While I was bummed that I couldn't go out to camp, God put these 3 guys on my airplane and they told me such great things about my old friend that I never knew. Amazing blessing.
Thanks God, I really needed that.
